Drifting snow, dropping temps keep storm tab climbing

County administrator calls blizzard a 'budget bomb'

"It will be a budget bomb.'' That's the assessment of Ocean County Administrator Carl W. Block of the cost of digging out after Sunday's blizzard dumped two and a half feet of snow and spread it around with winds that continued to howl into Tuesday, today. "It's going to be a lot of money,'' he said, while workers continued to plow away drifts and spread salt as snow that melted during Monday turned to ice as the sun sank in the west. County crews were ordered out en masse at 8 a.m. Sunday as snow began to fall and worked throughout the night to open and reopen 620 miles of county roads. Other county workers from the Buildings and Grounds Department struggled to clear sidewalks at county facilities, which were open for business on Monday, …
