Belmar Is The Jersey Shore's Favorite 'Staycation' Spot, Poll Says

Island Beach State Park and Jenkinson's finished second and third, respectively

A late, improbable rally put Belmar beaches at the top of this week's Readers' Choice poll for favorite Jersey Shore "staycation" spots, with 113 votes. Belmar is known for it's wide, long boardwalk, and its attraction to college-age adults who enjoy the beach and the local night-life. Island Beach State Park, the only natural beach on the Jersey Shore other than Sandy Hook, led for much of the week but finished second with 82 votes. Jenkinson's Boardwalk, which includes an aquarium, rides, food and other seaside pleasures in Point Pleasant Beach, finished third with 77. Thank you for voting in this week's poll. Anchor Inn In Ocean Gate Takes Top Honors For Best Place To Go For Mother's Day

Check out the results of our poll below!

It was a close race for much of the week, sometimes even neck and neck. But in the end, Berkeley Patch readers picked the Anchor Inn on Ocean Gate Avenue in Ocean Gate as their favorite place to go for Mother's Day. The Anchor Inn - a longtime landmark in this tiny town along the Toms River and Barnegat Bay - received 47 votes, or 30 percent of the 152 votes cast. The Forked River house on South Main Street in Forked River came in second with 35 votes, or 23 percent of the votes cast. Martell's Waters Edge on Bayview Avenue in Bayville was third, with 29 votes or 19 percent. Check out the results of our weekly poll below and let us know what you think. H&R Block Readers' Choice for Last-Minute Tax Prep

Firm tops weekly poll

No one likes taxes. At all. So it shouldn't be surprising that the people who do your taxes didn't get a lot of love when we asked you for your favorite go-to choice for last minute tax returns. We received 27 votes total. Of those, eight voted for H&R Block; five each voted for Withum Smith & Brown PC and Liberty Tax Service. Next week's poll promises to be a little more fun. Let's face it. Kids get hungry. And they can be picky. We wanted to know what's your favorite place to take your kids to eat in Berkeley Township and nearby towns? Well, it's official. The top vote getter in this week's poll was "There's not enough kid-friendly restaurants," with 22 votes or 33 percent out of 65 votes cast. Second place goes to C.B. Huntington on Route 9 in Bayville, with 12 votes or 18 percent. The Sandcastle Diner in Beachwood took third place honors, with 11 votes or 16 percent. It's A No-Brainer - Island Beach State Park Wins Best Park In Berkeley

Berkeley Island County Park comes in second

When it comes to parks, Berkeley Township has few rivals. Our 42-square-mile town is blessed with not one, but two state parks, three county parks and number of municipal parks. But Island Beach State Park, with its nine miles of pristine beach and bay, came in first in a poll of our readers for their favorite park in Berkeley Township. Island Beach was the top vote-getter in our poll, with 28 votes, or 35 percent. Berkeley Island County Park on the edge of Barnegat Bay came in second, with 16 votes, or 20 percent. The other parks in the top five were Veterans Park, with 13 votes, or 16 percent; William J. Dudley Park with nine votes, or 11 percent; and Double Trouble State Park, with six  votes, or seven percent.   Editor's Note: This …

Earlier this week, we asked our loyal Patch readers to choose their favorite Italian restaurant in Berkeley Township. The question was the first in a series of week-long polls of your favorite places in our town. We worked from a list of six restaurants, all with listings on Berkeley Patch. Readers cast their votes and told us why the restaurant was their favorite. Was it the sauce? The linguine? The mussels marinara? The veal or calamari? The winner: Buon Appetito Second place - Schiano's Pizza Third place: Frankie's Restaurant and Pizza Our other picks: Big Mike's Pizza, Nick D's Pizza, Senza Ristorante and Pizza.
