Event will give South Seaside Park residents a chance to discuss their concerns
Some residents of South Seaside Park have long felt they are the forgotten ones in this oceanfront section of the township, far removed from the mainland. Mayor Carmen F. Amato is hoping to change that. He and Township Council President James J. Byrnes are heading over the Mathis Bridge early this evening to 3C's Luncheonette at 1001 SW Central Avenue in Seaside Park. They will hold an "open house" from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. "Residents should have access to their public officials," Amato said. "That's what I'm trying to accomplish." An outraged Marianne Clemente came into the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC) open house last night on the annual assessment of Oyster Creek Generating Station. “This is not a public hearing,” she said. The open house — which consisted NRC representatives sitting at several tables — was to give citizens the opportunity to discuss plant-related topics, including its 2011 safety report. “They have to start listening to us,” said Clemente, who attended the open house as an independent concerned citizen. “This isn’t clean energy. They’re talking about mothballing (the plant) when they should be decommissioning it. There’s no reason for it to be open right now.” Despite the NRC's report that Oyster Creek operated safely during 2011, …

The 42-year-old nuclear plant's safety performance in 2011 will be discussed
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission will be conducting an open house to discuss the annual assessment of Oyster Creek Generating Station on Wednesday, March 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn in Stafford Township. “Members of the public will have an opportunity to learn first-hand from NRC staff members about the plant’s safety performance during 2011 and the NRC’s oversight of the facility,” NRC spokesman Neil Sheehan said in a press release. Citizens will be able to discuss plant-related topics with NRC inspectors and the Region I supervisor assigned to Oyster Creek. Overall, the plant operated safely during 2011, the NRC said. At the conclusion of the last year, there were no performance indicators or inspection findings that were …
