The Art Of The Decoy

Ocean County YMCA's 28th Annual Art and Decoy show runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. today

The duck decoys lined the tables and bobbed in tanks at the first day of the Ocean County YMCA's 28th Annual Art and Decoy Show at Central Regional High School. Veteran decoy judge Don Dobrosky and his fellow judges made their way slowly up and down the aisles, looking for what makes a winner. Dobrosky has a cardinal rule - does the duck's profile capture the essense of how it would look in real life, in a natural setting? "Everything else is immaterial," he said. It also helps to be a longtime duck hunter, like Dobrosky and many of the other judges. "The hunter sees them consistently, all the time," said Dobrosky, who is vice-president of the New Jersey Wildfowl Carvers Association. "The hunter always comes out right with his evaluation, …

28th Annual Ocean County YMCA Art And Decoy Show On Tap For This Weekend

Show has been expanded with more exhibitors and more family-oriented events

Duck decoy exhibitors from as far away as Ohio and Virginia will be making their way to Central Regional High School tonight to set up for the 28th Ocean County YMCA's Annual Art and Decoy Show. The show will be held on Saturday and Sunday in the Central Regional gymnasium and will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. "We'll be doing more family activities," said Janet Sellitto, the YMCA's special events coordinator. The show includes family craft activities, and exhibitors of wildfowl carvings, decoys, songbirds, antique decoys, books, wildlife artwork, prints, photography, life-size and miniature artwork, maritime artwork and original watercolors.
