OK, so maybe it's not trending right now, but chances are, it soon will be. The New Jersey State Police ranked second among state police agencies nationally in terms of Twitter followers, according to statistics recently released by the IACP Center for Social Media. The agency has 23,618 followers, trailing only the Massachusetts State Police, which had a whopping 62,493 followers, as of April 30. The Texas Department of Public Safety (18,787), the Ohio State Highway Patrol (13,587) and the Indiana State Police (13,466) round out the top five. Accident happened at mile marker 74.7 northbound, State Police say
A man who was trying to help push a disabled car off the northbound lane of the Garden State Parkway in Lacey Township died when a passing car struck and killed him early this evening, State Police said. Preliminary reports indicate the man was one of four who stopped to push the disabled car onto the shoulder of the roadway, Sgt. Adam Grossman said. "The person at the rear left of the vehicle was struck by a passing motor vehicle," he said. "Unfortunately it looks like a Good Samaritan...they are still trying to sort things out." The man - whose identify is being withheld for now - was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune by the Lacey Township First Aid Squad. Two New Jersey state troopers accused of leading a high-speed escort on the Garden State Parkway for a fleet of luxury cars have been criminally charged, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office announced. The New Jersey State Police (NJSP) received complaints regarding the March 2012 caravan to Atlantic City, and the troopers were subsequently suspended without pay in April. It's been a month since William D. Kolb's Harley-Davidson slammed into Freeholder John P. Kelly's SUV, but the toxicological tests done on Kelly at the time of the accident are still not back yet, state police said. A convicted murder who police say has been in hiding for more than 15 years has been arrested in Florida. Detectives from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department arrested Robert Marone, 69, on Friday after receiving a citizen's tip relayed from the New Jersey State Police's Fugitive tipline, according to a release from the Office of the Attorney General. Marone, who was living under an alias in Fort Lauderdale, was wanted by the New Jersey Parole Board on a violation stemming from a 1971 murder conviction. A 27-year-old from Paramus was killed and a 23-year-old from Neptune was charged with drunken driving after two unrelated crashes on the northbound Garden State Parkway minutes apart Saturday morning, state police said. Two accidents take place on northbound side of Parkway, within 11 minutes of each other
A pair of automobile accidents on the Garden State Parkway on Saturday morning left one person dead and another in need of a medevac response, according to the New Jersey State Police. “We received a call time on the first accident of 7:03 a.m.,” said Trooper Christopher Kay of the New Jersey State Police. “It involved one passenger vehicle which left the Garden State Parkway northbound at mile marker 86.2, and the male driver was pronounced dead at the scene.” Kay indicated that there was no evidence that the driver had any passengers.
