Sponsors Jump On Board To Help Thank Berkeley's 'Storm Warriors'

Food, football and fun to thank first responders, township workers for their efforts in the month since Hurricane Sandy hit

Sponsors of all kinds have come out to support Sunday's planned "Football Party" for the township's first responders, who assisted and protected residents during Hurricane Sandy. Bob Everett, president of the Berkeley Little League, which is hosting the event from 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Volunteer Community Center at the Moorage Baseball Complex, said response from area businesses has been terrific. "No one has told me no," he told the Berkeley Township Council on Tuesday night. But he noted they do not know how many people to expect to attend. Hurricane Sandy

Giving Thanks For Berkeley's Storm Warriors

Party planned for Dec. 2 at the Robert J. Everett Center at Berkeley Little League complex on Moorage Avenue for first responders and Public Works employees

  They rose to answer the call of duty again and again before, during and after Hurricane Sandy ripped through sections of Bayville, South Seaside Park and Pelican island. They went even though some of their homes were under water. They battled ferocious winds and flood waters to rescue those trapped in their homes. They fought fires. They are Berkeley's first responders - fire companies, first aid squads, police officers, underwater search and rescue teams. And after Sandy was finally gone, public works employees slogged through 16-hour days to pick up storm debris, furniture and the remnants of people's lives. Berkeley will say thank you to all of them with a "Football Party" at the Robert J. Everett Community Center at the Berkeley …

Our township took action from the start to recover from this disaster. We didn't wait for the federal government to tell us what to do.
