Traffic Alert: Route 37 and Downtown Delays Expected Due to Fireworks and Tourist Traffic

Travelers should expect traffic delays downtown and on Route 37

With two big fireworks displays in the area of Toms River, two corridors of town are expected to have traffic delays as thousands celebrate after dusk tonight. Fireworks along the Toms River, hosted by Beachwood, draws thousands downtown as well as along Island Heights and Money Island. Water craft traffic is also expected on the river and bay itself. Fireworks will begin at 8:45 p.m. July 4 at the Bayside Avenue beach front in Beachwood, although they're visible along the river banks. Free parking in Huddy Park and the municipal lot are likely to fill up fast. Try the parking lots farther west on Water Street. Route 166 traffic is also expected to slow, from Route 37 down into South Toms River and Beachwood. Seaside Heights is also …

Beachwood Fireworks Set to Dazzle Spectators This Monday

Beachwood's fireworks display has been the focal point celebration on the Toms River for more than 70 years. We take a look into what it takes to put on the show.

As traffic thickens on the Garden State Parkway and people begin preparing for a long Fourth of July weekend, final preparations are also being made for the fireworks on the Toms River. The display - hosted by Beachwood every year for over seven decades - can be seen from all the river towns. The impressive annual show can be seen even from Island Heights all the way to Seaside Heights. However, getting to that point takes a lot of fund-raising and manpower, as preparations for Monday's pyrotechnics display started as early as January.  The July 4th Committee gathers donations, prepares activities during the day and meets with the pyrotechnics provider, Schaefer Fireworks Incorporated several times throughout the year to hash out what will…

Where to Go for Independence Day Fireworks?

Free celebrations being held throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties

Independence Day weekend is upon us, and Shore residents can celebrate with fireworks displays in many municipalities throughout the region. Check out these free events in Monmouth and Ocean counties: The 8th Annual City of Asbury Park Fourth of July Parade will be held at 1 p.m. Monday. The parade starts at Cookman and Grand Avenue and continues down Main Street onto Fifth Ave. to Ocean Avenue. The reviewing stand will be on Fifth Avenue between Kingsley and Ocean Avenues and the judges will be there to choose the best entries in various categories. There will be a wide variety of bands including the Hegeman String Band from Philadelphia and the American Celts Pipe and Drums. Additional attractions for the kids will be located in Bradley …
