Mayor Advises Residents In Low-Lying Areas To Move Vehicles To Higher Ground

Township emergency management officials are recommending that residents in flood-prone areas move their cars to higher ground ahead of the coming nor'easter.   "The National Weather Service has updated their forecast for the impending nor’easter storm that is headed in our direction, and residents need to be prepared." Amato said.   Residents can park their vehicles in the lower parking lot at Central Regional Middle School off Forest Hills Parkway in Bayville, the mayor said. "I'm encouraging residents to be prepared, as power outages are likely due to the combination of high winds and wet snow," he said. "Residents should secure all items around their home. A Look Back At Hurricane Irene

Storm did not live up to catastrophic expectations, but still packed a punch

The message from the mayor's office was stark and simple "Whereas it has become evident that all persons present should leave the jurisdiction..." read the Aug. 26, 2011 message sent by then-Berkeley Mayor Jason J. Varano and Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele. But the the notice didn't just include the usual ocean and bayfront areas in South Seaside Park and Pelican island. This time it included residents who lived in the mainland waterfront areas -  "...all homes along the Cedar Creek, the Toms River and the bayfront shall evacuate the area."
