No Transfers For Bayville Elementary School Kindergarteners, Roselli Says

Parents can opt to have their children moved to another elementary school, but not mandatory

Berkeley Township Schools Superintendent James D. Roselli has assured parents of Bayville Elementary School kindergarten students that despite larger class sizes, their children will not be transferred to another district elementary school unless the parents wanted them moved.  Roselli held an informational session at the school Wednesday night to squelch rumors that the district would hold a lottery to move students to another school or would stop offering full-day kindergarten.  The informational meeting was held after the district saw a sudden influx of 18 kindergarten students register for school just two weeks before the first day of school. Roselli said state regulations allow 25 students in a classroom and the district is within …

Wanted: School Ghouls For H & M Potter's Zombie Apocalypse

School officials looking for zombies with the right stuff

Are you looking a little pale lately? Is the flesh dripping off your face? Thirsty for fresh blood and bodies? Then H & M Potter School Principal Jeffrey S. Zito wants you. Zito and his ghoulish administrative staff plan to hold auditions at the school on Oct. 19. They want to interview prospective zombies to see if they have the right stuff for the 2nd Annual Zombie Apocalypse at the school on Oct.26 and 27. "They have to really get into character," Zito said. "We are looking for someone who will take this very seriously." Zito, gym teacher Jason Miller and art teacher Joan Richie have been somewhat obsessed with the event for much of the year. Miller owns up to even thinking about it on his honeymoon this summer. And Richie, well, she'…

Spike In Kindergarten Registrations At Bayville Elementary School Leads To Larger Classes

Superintendent James D. Roselli plans to meet with parents next Wednesday to discuss options

A late summer rush of registrations at the Bayville Elementary School has resulted in larger kindergarten classes than Superintendent James D. Roselli wants to see. So Roselli plans to meet with parents with kindergartners at the Bayville School at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The school had an additional 27 registrations over the summer, 18 of them in mid-to-late August, Roselli said. "It was a huge influx," he said Friday. Roselli discussed the issue at the Sept. 20 Board of Education meeting, after the board returned from an executive session. "I apologize for going into closed session," he told the sparse audience at the Berkeley Township Elementary School. "We had to discuss the enrollment at the Bayville School. We are in the process of…

Roselli Hoping To Make His Mark In Berkeley Township School District

45-year-old Lacey resident appointed as superintendent in July

Although his recent appointment as superintendent of the Berkeley Township school district was not without some controversy, James D. Roselli wants to move forward, not look back. "I have 100 percent support," Roselli said of the Board of Education. "Everyone has been excellent with me. They have been open to things I've been doing here. I've been able to do my job. We have a strong administrative team." The 45-year-old Roselli wants to concentrate on the district's future. That includes throwing his full support behind the annual student trip to Stokes State Forest and possibly bringing two Spanish teachers who were laid off and replaced with Rosetta Stone. "We are moving along," he said. "What's past is past." And the married father of…

Air Quality Tests at Bayville, Potter Schools Show No Mold Issues

Superintendent says company will issue full, detailed report at a later date

Air quality testing conducted at Bayville School and H&M Potter Elementary School on Wednesday showed no safety issues, Berkeley Township Schools Superintendent James Roselli said Thursday afternoon. Roselli said he, school board president Steven Pellecchia and Patrick Sullivan, head of buildings and grounds, walked with Karl & Associates of Mohnton, Pa., as it conducted the testing. Bayville School was tested first, Roselli said, and then Potter was checked, and both schools were given a clean billing. "They said there was neither sight nor smell of mold, and the air quality was safe for students and staff," Roselli said. Mold was discovered on hard surfaces at Berkeley Township Elementary School and Clara B. Worth Elementary School the …

Roselli: Bayville, Potter Schools to be Tested for Mold Today

Berkeley parents told mold at Berkeley Township Elementary and Clara B. Worth schools has been cleaned up,

Testing for mold at Bayville School and H&M Potter Elementary School will be conducted today, to ensure the Berkeley Township School District's students are learning in a safe environment, according to district Superintendent Dr. James D. Roselli. Roselli told roughly 30 parents assembled for an information meeting at Berkeley Township Elementary School on Tuesday night that mold found at BTES and at Clara B. Worth Elementary School recently has been cleaned up and that air quality tests show mold levels are nonexistent. But in response to one mother's continued questions about the status of Bayville and Potter, Roselli told the audience that the schools would be tested today. No visible evidence of mold has been seen at either school, …

Mold Problem At Berkeley Township Elementary School Taken Care Of, School Board President Says

Update on issue slated for 7 p.m. at BTES on Tuesday, Pellecchia says

A minor mold problem found at the Berkeley Township Elementary School has been remediated and the school will open on Sept. 6, Berkeley Board of Education President Steven Pellecchia said today. "The mold situation was practically non-existent," Pellecchia said. "It was so miniscule it was taken care of. As of now there is no mold at all." Parents with any concerns may attend a meeting at the school at 7 p.m. on Tuesday for an update, he said. "I wish they would come to the meeting, so they can put their minds at ease," Pellecchia said. Schools Superintendent James D. Roselli said last Wednesday that environmental testing was being done at the school to determine if there as a problem. "We have a company doing the testing," he said last …

One Week Before School Opens, Possible Problems At Berkeley Township Elementary School

Test results should be available on Thursday, superintendent says

The staff of the Berkeley Township Elementary School was summoned to a special meeting yesterday over a possible environmental problem in the building. Schools Superintendent James D. Roselli confirmed that a company is doing testing at the school on Emory Avenue in Bayville. But he declined to discuss the nature of the problem with Berkeley Patch until test results are back on Thursday. "We are in the process of identifying exactly what is going on in the building," said Roselli, who was appointed superintendent in late June. "We don't have any answers." Board Vice-President James Fulcomer said he had "heard a rumor" the school was closed to staff members and contacted Roselli's secretary. He was told there was a meeting about the …
