A Bayville man was taken to Community Medical Center with chest injuries early Thursday evening after his car struck and split a utility pole on Route 9, Sgt. Philip Smith said. Jeffrey Wyka, 26, was traveling southbound on Route 9 near Serpentine Drive when his 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck swerved across the roadway and struck a fire hydrant and then a pole on the northbound side, Smith said. "It cracked the pole in half and closed Route 9 for about two hours," he said. Wyka complained of chest pain and was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River by members of the Bayville First Aid Squad, Smith said. Police are still trying to determine why the car swerved across the roadway. Wyka will be issued a summons for careless driving, …

Terrence Feeney and another man escaped from a work detail in Burlington County this afternoon; second inmate arrested in Manchester Township
Berkeley police arrested an escaped inmate from the Mid-State Correctional Facility early this evening at Blackbeard's Cave on Route 9 South in Bayville. Terrence Feeney, 42, was apprehended around 6:45 p.m., just 10 minutes after Berkeley police received information from the Ocean County radio room that he was in the area, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said. Feeney and Joseph Brandt, another inmate, were on a work detail at a military cemetery in Burlington County when they escaped around 1 p.m., said Matt Schuman, a state Department of Corrections spokesman. Both Feeney and Brandt were classified as full minimum custody inmates. Inmates who fall under that classification are the only ones allowed to leave the facility for work details…

Reports are of one patient taken to Jersey Shore via ambulance
The parking lot at Little John's Deli became a two-way thoroughfare for about an hour on Thursday night after an accident on Route 9 at Bay Boulevard resulted in the closure of Route 9 in both directions. Police scanner reports indicated one patient was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center's trauma unit in Neptune. A medevac helicopter was called in and landed next to ShopRite. It is unknown whether any patients were taken to the helicopter for transport. Traffic headed south on Route 9 was diverted onto Bay Boulevard through the parking lot at Little John's Deli. Blaze consumed about five acres off Louis Avenue in Bayville
Berkeley Township police and county investigators are working to determine what sparked a fire off Louis Avenue in the Bayville section of the township yesterday afternoon, Detective Sgt. James J. Smith said. The blaze began around 5 p.m. in the area of Louis and Monmouth avenues, near the Ocean Gate border, he said. "It is suspicious," Smith said. "The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office and the Criminal Investigations Unit will be at the scene continuing the investigation tonight." The Bayville Volunteer Fire Department, the New Jersey State Forest Fire Service and the Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office also responded, he said. Noah Jackson, 37, was stabbed three times in Bayville ShopRite last Friday
The employee who was severely stabbed in front of horrified staff and customers in at the Bayville ShopRite last Friday has been discharged from Jersey Shore University Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said toay. Noah Jackson, 37, Bayville, was stabbed three times between checkout registers 1 and 3 around 11 a.m. on Friday morning, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele has said. Christopher Page, 34, was arrested and charged with attempted murder the following morning near the Toms River and South Toms River border. Three Lakewood women are recovering in stable condition today, after being struck by a pickup truck on Friday evening as they were attempting to cross Route 9 at Frederick Drive, police said. The women had just been dropped off by a southbound New Jersey Transit bus at the bus stop near Frederick Drive when the accident occurred, police said. Marasel Cardoza, 32, Evette Cardoza, 26 and a 13-year-old female juvenile whose name and age are not being released — all of Morris Boulevard in Lakewood — are recuperating from their injuries at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, said Lt. Power and gas supply knocked out to nearby residents
An Asbury Park man was charged with driving while under the influence follwing a one-vehicle crash in the South Seaside Park section of Berkeley Township Saturday night. In addition to DUI, Anthony Allen, 60, was issued a summons for refusal to take a breathalyzer test and charged with reckless driving, Berkeley Township police said. The accident occurred approximately 7:47 p.m. at Central Avenue and 21st Street when Allen's vehicle struck a fence. The impact knocked out power and the gas supply to nearby residents. Jersey Central Power & Light and New Jersey Natural Gas responded to the accident scene. Power was restored by noon Sunday, police said. Allen's car was impounded under John's Law. Section of roadway between Double Trouble Road and Dover Road was closed much of the day due to accident when motorist swerved to avoid hitting deer, struck utility pole
Pinewald-Keswick Road is now open to regular traffic, following an early morning accident when a motorist swerved to avoid a deer and struck a utility pole in front of police headquarters. The driver, a Bayville resident, was on his way to work at the time of the crash. He told police a deer ran out in front of his car, Detective Sgt. James J. Smith said earlier today. The driver was not injured in the accident, he said. Pinewald-Keswick Road between Double Trouble Road and Dover Road was closed for much of the day after the accident, which happened shortly before 5 a.m., Smith said. The roadway was closed to traffic, with the exception of township employees coming to work, he said.
Incident happened on Keller Street in Bayville
Police recently arrested a man who apparently was living in his car and charged him with drunk driving and several drug offenses. Police responded to 245 Keller Street in Bayville at 4 a.m. on March 13, after receiving a call that a suspicious car was parked in the driveway of the house, Detective Sgt. James J. Smith Jr. said. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Paul Coleman, no age available, passed out on the driver's side of the car, with the door half open, Smith said. Police managed to rouse Coleman, who smelled of marijuana and alcohol, Smith said. Coleman was charged with drunk driving, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, he said.
