A Mystery on Barnegat Bay: Bayville Man Goes On Trial Next Week For Fatal Canoe Accident

Trevor Murphy, 18, pleaded not guilty to leaving the scene of a boating accident and failure to report a fatal boat accident

  There are only two people who knew what happened when their canoe overturned in the darkness on Barnegat Bay in the early morning hours of June 10. One of them, Ryan Worrall, is dead. The other, Trevor Murphy, will go on trial Dec. 14 in Berkeley Township Municipal Court to defend himself against charges filed by the New Jersey State Police shortly after the the accident. Murphy was charged with reckless operation of a vessel and failure to report a fatal boat accident. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on Sept. 28, when he was arraigned before Municipal Court Judge John J. Sheehy. Well the boy pled guilty to not reporting a boating accident. More info in today's AP Press where in that artice they try and compare this to Ted kennedy's '69 incident @ Chappaquiddick. It's also presumed he tried to cover up and tamper w/ evidence but don't go into details. Toxicological Results Released in Barnegat Bay Drowning

Ryan Worrall just under legal limit for alcohol, no evidence of drugs, Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says

An 18-year-old man who drowned in a Barnegat Bay canoe accident in June tested under the state legal limit for alcohol consumption, according to toxicological tests released by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office today. Ryan Worrall had a blood alcohol level of .076, said Michael Mohel, Deputy Chief of Detectives. A person must have a blood alcohol level of .08 in New Jersey to be  considered under the influence, he said. "He was under the legal limit," Mohel said. Worrall and Trevor Murphy, now 18, took a canoe out into Barnegat Bay in the early hours of June 10, shortly after attending a post-graduation party. Well, what about friends who dropped them off? Was Murphy drinking all night? Did anyone in his family see him when he got home? If not, when did they see him? Does Murphy live in town? Has he spoken to Ryan's Mom or Dad if he was such good friends with Ryan they must know him? God help the family through this.   more ›
