Three doctors on list for Toms River
The Medical Marijuana Program Patient Registry begins today in New Jersey, as the state Department of Health allows qualified patients and their caregivers to apply for identification cards. “The Department has made every effort to make the process as user friendly as possible,” said Health Commissioner Mary E. O’Dowd in a news release. “Registered physicians have had access to the system since July to become familiar with it and have their questions answered.” The department has a list of more than 100 physicians, including three in Ocean County, authorized to recommend medical marijuana to patients. Thomas Reutter, a 73-year member of the volunteer squad, died on July 17
Thomas Reutter spent eight decades volunteering in his hometown of Seaside Heights, giving time as a firefighter and a councilman. On Tuesday, Reutter was honored for his service, as the Seaside Heights Volunteer Fire Department held a formal funeral procession through the borough to allow the department and the town's residents to pay tribute to him. Reutter, a 73-year member of the department and a 27-year member of the Borough Council, died July 17 at the age of 96. On Tuesday, his casket, covered by an American flag, was transported from Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home in Toms River out Route 37 to the borough he had called home since 1938. Robert Patrick Mackenzie, also known as “Mac”, 50, of Bayville, passed away on July 3, 2012. Born in Red Bank, Robert grew up in Lacey and graduated from Central Regional High School in Bayville in 1981. Robert enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country as a Medical Specialist for 4 years. He trained at Fort Sam Houston in Texas before going to Germany and then to Kansas. When he returned to New Jersey, Robert settled in Bayville and worked at the First National Bank in Toms River. He also worked as a mechanic at Claytons, SBA Hydraulics, American Transport and as a plumber for C&R Plumbing in Lacey Township. After the tragedies of September 11, 2001, Robert committed to protecting his community by becoming an Armed Nuclear Security …

An Ocean County teen celebrated for his academic and athletic achievements has died following a battle with brain cancer, according to a death announcement. Joshua Stanton Cramer, 14, of Jackson, died Tuesday after what an obituary posted to the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals calls a "courageous" fight against Diffused Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, a rare and aggressive form of brain stem cancer. The teen, who was born in Lakewood, attended Ocean Day School there and won the Citizenship award 4 years in a row. He transferred to Switlik Elementary School and won the Ocean County Guidance Councilors Caring Award, an honor given to one fifth grade student at each county middle school, according to the obituary. After battling with cancer for seven years, 12-year-old Kyle McGetrick of Barnegat died Tuesday at 1 p.m. During his battle, which the doctors did not foresee would last as long as it had, his family said, McGetrick had inspired his entire town with his strength and courage. Barnegat's entire community showed support, as Kyle's terminal disease slowly consumed him. Friends, family and hundreds of residents from the area and beyond cheered Kyle on as he held on to life for as long as he could. Kyle was diagnosed at the age of 5. "He could have succumbed to it five years ago," Gene McGetrick, Kyle's father told Patch this morning. Lakehurst Naval Base, along with the nation, lost a hero this week. The last sky sailor from the World War II era of blimp patrols for German U boats, died on Tuesday, according to Carl Jablonski, president of the Navy Lakehurst Historical Society. Clarence C. "C.C." Moore was 90 when he passed away in his Whiting, Manchester home. On Monday, 12 navy sailors gave Moore a deserving sendoff in a 21-gun salute at a military funeral at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetary Arneytown, New Egypt. Moore joined the navy in 1938. Two years later he was accepted into the Navy's last Lighter Than Air (LTA) training class. Though he retired from the Navy in 1959 and the airship program ended in 1962, when he was 80 Moore made another appearance. …

Services for the Marine from Manchester who lost his life in Afghanistan last week have been arranged, according to a township official. A viewing for Cpl. Nicholas Ott will be held from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday at Saint John's Roman Catholic Church, 619 Chestnut St., Lakehurst, township Business Administrator Elena Zsoldos said. The Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home of Manchester is handling the arrangements, but the church is being used since a large number of mourners is expected, Zsoldos said. A mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, again at Saint John's. Ott will be buried at 1 p.m. at the Brigadier General William C. Hundreds of law enforcement officers, friends and family pay their respects to 10-year officer
Hundreds of law enforcement officers paid their respects today to a fallen colleague, Ocean County Detective Tina Rambo. Each of the mourners at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Marlton marched single-file before saluting Rambo, who died Monday after a head-on collision on Route 70. As the ceremony started, a close friend of Rambo's, Anthony Turso, said a few words. "Tina always tried to make things right, to make them perfect. She loves to laugh and joke around, to tease her friends and family. She was a ball of fire." Rambo's sister, Tara Cunningham, also spoke, and told a story of her sister and a trip they had taken. Flags will fly at half-staff around the county today in honor of fallen Ocean County Detective Tina E. Rambo. The Office of the Ocean County Administrator issued the order in recognition and mourning of Rambo, a prosecutor's office detective who was killed Monday morning in a head-on collision in the Southampton portion of Route 70. Services were held Thursday and this morning at St. Isaac Jogues Church in Marlton for the 10-year veteran of the Ocean office.
