Third Air Quality Warning in Four Days

As the second heat wave of the season brings oppressive temperatures and humidity, the state Department of Environmental Protection on Thursday said ozone levels in the area will reach unhealthy levels, affecting some sensitive groups.

The DEP has issued an air quality alert for Thursday and Friday. It previously issued the same alert for Tuesday.

Due to mostly sunny skies and hot temperatures, the state DEP advised that those sensitive to changes in air quality — including the very young, the elderly, and those with respiratory diseases such as asthma — should avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the afternoon and early evening hours Thursday.

The Ozone forecast is roughly the same for Friday, with slighly elevated ozone levels over Thursday, the DEP says.
