Seven Things Happening in Berkeley This Week

Beach Bash, Monster Mash and more

 

Monday - Learn how to seine in Barnegat Bay and discover the creatures that live in it at Island Beach State Park. Free daily tour starts at 1 p.m. Please pre-register at Ocean Bathing Pavilion #1. For more information, call the park at 732-793-0506.

Monday - Monster Mash, 1:30 p.m. at the Berkeley branch of the Ocean County Library, 30 Station Road, Bayville. Watch and mock a creature feature, make a sock puppet monster and create monster boxes. Ages 13-18. To register, call 732-269-2144 or online at www.oceancountylibrary.org.

Wednesday - The Ocean County Parks and Recreation Department is offering a "Just the Basics" Kayak Touring 101 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Seaside Park Elementary School at Central and 4th avenues in Seaside Park. Learn the basics of kayaking. Fee is $20. Register by calling the Parks and Recreation main office at 732-506-9090; Jakes Branch County Park at 732-281-2750, or Wells Mills County Park at 609-971-3085. Class size is limited to nine.

Thursday - Bingo night, sponsored by the Bingo Club, Clubhouse #2, Port Royal Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6:30 p.m.

Friday - Berkeley Island Beach Bash, 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. - Berkeley Island County Park, Bayville. Rain or shine. Music by Jimmy and the Parrots; campfires, sand castle building, games, and arts and crafts. Fee is $8 for adults and teens 13 and up; $3 for children 12 and under. Children under three are admitted free. Register online at www.oceancountyparks.org or at the gate.

Saturday - Dayton's Dream Team, in affiliation with Autism Speaks, will hold a Summer Funfest from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Blackbeard's Cave on Route 9 South in Bayville. All access wristbands are $20. The event also features a driving range contest with prizes and a dunk tank with Berkeley Schools Superintendent James Roselli and H & M Potter School Principal Jeffrey Zito. A portion of the proceeds will go Dayton's Dream Team and Autism Speaks.

Sunday - Live Animal Talks at Jakes Branch County Park on Double Trouble Road in Beachwood. Meet some of the park's animals up close and personal. The free event runs from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and is open to all ages. No registration is required.
