Ocean County Fair 2012 - Day 1

Fair will run from 5 to 11 p.m. today at Robert J. Miller Airpark off Route 530 in Berkeley Township

The 2012 Ocean County Fair gets under way late this afternoon at Robert J. Miller Airpark in Berkeley Township.

The fair will have shortened schedules from 5 to 11 p.m. today and Wednesday; full days and nights Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and 11 am. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

And unlike past recent fairs where temperatures were in the 90s, this week will be a lot easier on visitors and animals alike, with temperatures in the 80s and sunny skies.

The schedule for Day 1 is as follows:

  • Bwana Jim's Wildlife Show, Hot Dog Pig Racing and Chainsaw Carving Demonstrations will run throughout the evening.
  • Therapeutic Riding Demonstration gets under way at 6 p.m. in the Horse Show tent.
  • Seeing Eye Puppy Demonstration starts at 7 p.m. in the 4-H Show Tent.
  • The Zuzu African Acrobats from Kenya will do three shows on the main stage at 7 p.m. 8:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The fair also features 4-H demonstrations, craft demonstrations, rides, food, funnel cakes and music.

Fair visitors can purchase "pay one price" tickets for $20 on Tuesday and $20 Wednesday. They can also purchase a ride "megapass" for $40, for rides the entire five days of the fair.
