Berkeley Little League to Host 2014 State Championship

The championship kicks off on July 22.

Little League has deep roots in Ocean County, having produced two world champions, Lakewood Little League in 1975 and Toms River East American LL in 1998. This year, that tradition will grow even stronger when Berkeley LL hosts the New Jersey Little League State Championship.

Championship Week begins July 22 with a banquet that will recognize past sectional champions in New Jersey, and opening ceremonies kick off July 23. Eight teams will participate: four from the Little League Division and four from the Junior League Division. The tournament will end July 27 with the crowning of two new state champions.

Bob Everett, president of Berkeley Little League, told the Shore News Network that the league is honored to host this year’s event.

"Berkeley Little League, through the dedicated work of hundreds of volunteers, has come a long way,” Everett said. "We could not be prouder to be selected as the host site.”
