Township Council Victories Lead to Berkeley and Central Regional School Board Vacancies

Application deadline for Central Regional seat is Friday

Bacchione and Grosse's victories left two open unexpired seats on the Berkeley Township Board of Education. The deadline to file for those seats was Dec. 2.

Berkeley schools Business Administrator/Board Secretary Laura J. Venter said the district received eight applications for the two seats. One application was disqualified because the person did not live in Berkeley Township, she said.

All three of the unexpired terms run until April 2012.

Anyone interested in the Central Regional seat must have been a Berkeley resident and American ciitizen for one year prior to the appointment.

Candidates must be registered to vote in Berkeley, be able to read and write and not hold any other public office in Berkeley, Seaside Heights, Seaside Park and Ocean Gate, and not have any claims or contracts with Central Regional, O'Shea said.

Anyone interested in the Central seat should submit an appliction to Board President Keith Buscio, Central Regional Board of Education, Forest Hills Parkway, Bayville, NJ 08721.

The Central Regional school board will receive the applications received and make a decision at the Dec. 15 board meeting, O'Shea said.

The will review the applications and make a decision on or before the next meeting on Jan. 12, Venter said.

The unexpired terms are only good until the 2012 school board elections, she said.

"They would have to run again," Venter said.
