OCC Guard Hits 1000 Points in Final Home Game

JaMario Clayton of Ortley Beach reaches milestone in game against Gloucester County College

Ocean County College Sophomore JaMario Clayton knew going into the final home game of the season, and possibly his career with the Vikings, that he was two points shy of hitting 1000 career points.

After the inital tipoff to start Thursday's game against Gloucester Community College, the ball was passed around, and after only 11 seconds into the game, Clayton sunk a three-point shot to bring his career total points to 1001.

"For our first play of the game, our plan was to get the ball to Rio," said coach Taurean Fisher.

Clayton, an Ortley Beach resident, said, "It feels good. This was a great opportunity. Without my teammates I couldn't have done this."

Only five other players have hit the 1000-point milestone at OCC, said athletic director Ilene Cohen.

"We are really proud to have a player like Rio on our team," said Cohen.

In their final home appearance this season, the Vikings went on to win 56-48, and Clayton scored 19 points.
