'Garnet and Gold' Alumni Gathering Kicks Off on Thanksgiving Before Football Game

Mini-reunions on tap at Central Regional High School for Thursday

Central Regional Superintendent Triantafillos Parlapanides is hoping Central Regional alumni will take part in the first "Garnet and Gold" gathering at the high school on Thursday morning.

The event, sponsored by the Central Regional Foundation, will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the high school football field. Signs will be posted with each class  year, so alumni will be able to find their classmates, Parlapanides said.

The graduating classes will be broken down in the following arrangement:  1956 – 1966, 1967 – 1977, 1978 – 1988, 1989 – 1999, 2000 – 2010, & 2011.

"People get busy and sometimes reunions are not planned," said Parlapanides, a 1991 Central graudate who oversaw the 20th anniversary of his class this year. "This provides a reunion every two years and an opportunity to network."

Admission is $10 and includes coffee or hot chocolate, along with admission to the Thanksgiving football game to watch the Golden Eagles take on the Point Pleasant Boro Panthers. Breakfast sandwiches will also be available, with the proceeds going to the Central Regional Foundation.

Parlapanides hopes to make the gathering a bi-annual tradition, to be held each year the Thanksgiving Day football game is held at home.

"We have a lot of successful alumni in different areas, such as business, law firms, medical, education and construction, so maybe they know of a job opening or opportunities within their company," he said. "Since almost everyone comes home for Thanksgiving, we will have the gathering every odd number year."

Another new tradition will begin this Saturday, at Spicy's on the Seaside Heights boardwalk. Owner Wayne Cimorellli is holding a free buffet for all Central alumni from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. along with drink specials. Cimorelli's children are both Central Regional graduates.
