Wednesday's sports scores

Sophomore Lizzy Kroon scored twice and assisted on the goal by freshman Erin Trapp as the Central Regional girls soccer team beat Pinelands 3-0 on Wednesday in Bayville.

The Golden Eagles improved to 2-0 overall and in Shore Conference Class B South, the first time the girls have won their first two games in a few years, assistant head coach John Truhan said.

Kroon scored her first goal 26 minutes in, and Trapp tallied the second off Kroon's pass not long before halftime. Then Kroon sealed the game in the 68th minute off what Truhan described as a pretty feed from Lindsey Mahnken, Central's sophomore backup goalkeeper.

In boys soccer, the Golden Eagles improved to 1-1 on Myles Gortva's last-minute goal that gave Central a 2-1 victory over Pinelands in a Class B South game in Little Egg Harbor.

Pinelands took a 1-0 lead early in the first half as Central struggled to get comfortable. In the second half, Central applied constant pressure, finally tying the score on Blake Czajkowski's goal.

Central had a few near-misses on the defensive end, with timely saves and a friendly crossbar keeping the score tied until late. Gortva got free on the right side on a 1-on-1 and beat the defender. As the Pinelands keeper came out to challenge, Gortva tapped the ball past him and drilled it into the back of the net.

In girls volleyball, the Golden Eagles improved to 2-0 with a 2-0 victory over Lacey.
