Berkeley Township School District Adds Link To NJ State Police Registered Sex Offenders Web Site

Vicari warns parents to be vigilant with the new school year around the corner

Superintendent of Schools Joseph Vicari urged Berkeley Township parents to take advantage of a new addition to the school district's web site.

The school district Tuesday morning posted a link to the New Jersey State Police database of registered sex offenders.

"You should know who lives in your neighborhood," Vicari said at the Aug. 23 Board of Education meeting.

"I can't [legally] show you a picture," he said. "I can't show my bus drivers someone who's on the list. Go on your computer. Every school should have that web site."

In another matter, the board entered into two new shared services agreements - one with the Central Regional School district and the second with the Island Heights Board of Education.

The Central Regional agreement is for courier services while the Island Heights agreement is for child study team services.

Also at Tuesday night's meeting, the board:

  • Accepted the resignation of teacher Laura Waldron. Waldron, a teacher in the district for 13 years, is taking a position as assistant principal at the Manalapan Englishtown school district. She will also be responsible for supervisory duties of the academically talented.
  •  "Each day here has been a gift to me," Waldron told the board. "I will always remember where my roots are."
  • Awarded a contract for HVAC (heating ventilation and air conditioning) units at the Bayville School. EACM Corporation, Sea Bright, will furnish and deliver the proposed new HVAC units at the Bayville School at a cost of $151,572 as per contract specs as lowest, responsive, responsible bidder.
  • Announced that a meeting of the Stokes Foundation is scheduled for Oct. 4.
