Varano Names Lt. Karin T. DiMichele as Berkeley's Next Police Chief

DiMichele scored first in state on Civil Service exam for chief

Berkeley Township Police Lt. Karin T. DiMichele will have a new title on Monday - chief of police.

Mayor Jason J. Varano phoned DiMichele at 8 a.m. this morning to tell her she would be longtime Police Chief John C. Weinlein III's replacement. Weinlein, who has been with the department for 34 years, is retiring. His last day is Sunday.

DiMichele, 40, has been with the Berkeley Police Department for 16 years. She has a masters degree in criminal justice and a bachelor's degree in business administration.
