Tuesday - Back to school scavenger hunt at the Berkeley Branch of the Ocean County Library, 30 Station Road, Bayville. The event will run from Sept. 4 through Sept. 29. Wednesday - First day of school for students in the Central Regional school district.

Wednesday - Wildflower Walk, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Jakes Branch County Park, Double Trouble Road, Beachwood. Join a park naturalist for a stroll around the park in the Pine Barrens. Fee is $6 per person. For ages 9 and up. Registration is required. Walk is for a maximum of 15 persons.

Thursday - Berkeley Township Council, 7 p.m. Town Hall, 627 Pinewald-Keswick Road. Caucus starts at 7 p.m., followed immediately by regular meeting. Hint: most of discussion takes place at caucus meeting.

Thursday - First day of school for elementary school students in the Berkeley Township school district.

Thursday - Bingo night, sponsored by the Bingo Club, Clubhouse #2, Port Royal Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday - 22nd Annual Community Pride Day, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Veterans Park. The event features rides, children's games, facepainting, food, arts and crafts, exhibits from local businesses and local talents, classic cars, and 50/50 raffles. Performances by The 70s Project and The Edmund Brothers are also planned. A fireworks show will follow the concerts. Saturday - "I've finished my first draft...now what?," 2 p.m., Berkeley branch of the Ocean County Library, 30 Station Road, Bayville. Saturday - In Search of Meat-Eating Plants, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Group will meet at the Nature Center at Jakes Branch County Park on Double Trouble Road in Beachwood, then travel to nearby Double Trouble State Park. The event begins with a Powerpoint presentation, then a trek through the woods in search of bug-eating plants. Fee is $6 per person. For ages 9 and up. Trip is for a maximum of 15 persons.

Sunday - 15th Annual Beach Plum Festival, Island Beach State Park, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the first bathing beach pavilion at the park. The event features beach plum picking, a jelly-making demonstration, arts and crafts show, food, entertainment, children's games, bird banding demonstrations, environmental and nonprofit exhibits, kayak rides.
