Eight Things Happening In And Around Berkeley This Week

Monday - Members of the South Jersey Ghost Research Group will discuss paranormal investigations at 7 p.m. in the Bishop Memorial Library next to the main branch of the Ocean County Library on Washington Street in Toms River. The event includes a video presentation and a question and answer period. Seating is limited, registration is required. Monday - TAB Tales - 6:30 p.m., Berkeley branch of the Ocean County Library, 30 Station Road, Bayville. Are you ready for the spookiest month of the year? Scary stories and creepy food are provided. Wednesday - Ocean County Board of Freeholders, 4 p.m., Ocean County Administration Building, 101 Hooper Avenue, Toms River.

Thursday - Bingo night, sponsored by the Holiday City at Berkeley Bingo Club, Clubhouse #2, Port Royal Drive. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday - Star Wars Reads Day, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Berkeley branch of the Ocean County Library, 30 Station Road, Bayville. Special Star Wars crafts, scavenger hunt and refreshments. Sponsored by the Friends of the Berkeley Library.

Saturday - Evening walk, campfire and star party, 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Jakes Branch County Park, Double Trouble Road, Beachwood. Take a sunset stroll through the park, then join members of the Astronomical Society of the Toms River Area for a look at the autumn skies. The evening ends with a marshmallow roast around a campfire. The fee is $6 per person. To register, go to www.oceancountparks.org or call the park at 732-281-2750.

Sunday - The 21st Annual Goveror's Surf Fishing Tournament at Island Beach State Park. Prizes awarded for striped bass, bluefish, weakfish, blackfish and flounder. Whoever catches the longest fish of the day wins the Governor's Cup and has their name inscribed on the cup, which is displayed in the park office on Shore Road. Participants 16 and older must register with the NJ Saltwater Recreational Registry at www.saltwaterregistry.NJ.org. For more information, call the park at 732-793-0506. 

Sunday - The popular "Live Animal Talks" returns to Jakes Branch County Park today from 1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the park's Nature Center off Double Trouble Road in Beachwood. Visitors get an up close look at park inhabitants and learn about each species. The program is free and open to all ages.
