Sandy Victims' Break on BTSA Connection And Reconnection Fees Ends Jan. 15

by Patricia A. Miller

Residents affected by Superstorm Sandy have until Jan. 14 to take advantage of connection and reconnection fee waivers, according to the township website.

"If you plan to demolish or raise your home, it is imperative that you disconnect the home prior to Jan. 15, 2014 to be eligible for the waiver," the website states.

However, many residents affected by Sandy are still waiting for federal funding or insurance money and have not been able to raise or demolish their homes.

The Berkeley Township Sewerage Authority kept charging displaced residents quarterly fees after Sandy struck on Oct. 29, 2012, even though they were unable to return  home.

The only way to avoid the quarterly fees was to pay a plumber to disconnect the sewer line to their home, which cost more than continuing to pay the fee.

Residents with questions about the connection and reconnection waivers are should call the Authority’s Office at 732-269-3500.
