Ocean Gate Evacuations Along Waterfront Still Voluntary - For Now

Mayor, police, emergency management officials to meet at noon

Ocean Gate Mayor Paul J. Kennedy has ordered voluntary evacuations for residents living along the waterfront and in flood-prone areas of this small borough at the mouth of the Toms River.

But that may change later today, he said.

Borough officials will meet with emergency management officials at noon to discuss the next steps, Kennedy said.

"I'm sure at some point today there will be mandatory evacuations," the mayor said. "I must meet with all members of OEM, the police chief as to exactly when. I don't want to wait too long or until it's too late."

Berkeley Patch will update as soon as more information becomes available.
