Ocean County College has reached a new contract with its adjunct faculty, one that will increase their salaries by 2 percent a year for the next 3 years.
"We’re trying to stay competitive with other institutions," which are recruiting adjunct faculty, explained Richard Strada, OCC’s executive vice president for instruction.
He cited Richard Stockton State College in Pomona, and Kean University, which is a partner at OCC, as chief among the rivals for adjunct faculty members.

"There are adjuncts from Kean here making several hundred dollars more than our faculty," Strada said.
The new agreement also provides incentives for qualified adjunct faculty members to teach an increased number of students in on-line courses.

"Not everybody can do that," said OCC President Dr. Jon H. Larson.
The college has a training program for adjuncts involved in on-line courses, he said.
