Medication Management Talk on Tap For March 4

Free program targeted for seniors

Unsure over whether it's safe to take that over-the-counter drug with your current medications?

The Ocean County Health Department will discuss that topic and many more at a free medication management seminar at 1 p.m. March 4 at the Silver Ridge Park East clubhouse at 979 Edgebrook Drive North.

"This program is especially designed to target the needs of the senior community," said township Councilman Carmen F. Amato Jr., who is also a member of the Ocean County Board of Health.

Other topics slated to be covered include understanding prescriptions, how to take medication correctly, medication interactions, generic drugs and over-the-counter medications. A question-and-answer program will follow the discussion. Health Department nurses will be on hand for free blood pressure screenings.

"There is so much information offered in this program," said health department spokesperson Leslie Terjesen. "Simple things such as knowing that certain drugs, many that are commonly used, should not be taken with others as they can cause harmful reactions."
