Superstorm Sandy Recovery Information Session Slated For Wednesday Night

Seminar is limited to Berkeley residents impacted by the storm; FEMA, SBA, township professionals will be on hand to answer questions

Residents whose heads may be spinning from dealing with flood insurance, FEMA claims and flood elevations may find some relief at a township-sponsored seminar Wednesday night.

The information session is only for residents impacted by Hurricane Sandy. It wil run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. in auditorium at the Berkeley Township Elementary School on 10 Emory Avenue in Bayville, according to the township website.

Space is limited to 500 residents. The session will be webcast live on the township website for anyone who cannot attend.

Federal Emergency Management Agency officials will be on hand to explain  rebuilding options and discuss the newly-released advisory base flood elevation maps, the Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC) program, Hazard Mitigation Grant Program, the FEMA claims process and Small Business Administration programs.

The Township Construction official, flood mitigation officer and Township Planner and Engineer will also attend.

"We will have a representative from Homes For All and O.C.E.A.N. Inc. present for those who may not be able to afford to rebuild," the website states. "We have requested representatives from the State Division of Banking & Insurance attend to help homeowners with questions about their insurance claims."

The seminar will recess after the panel discussions. Residents can then ask questions in a small group setting.

Township officials will also have free carbon monoxide detectors at the sesion for storm victims who have not already received one. Proof of residence is required.

The seminar is the latest in a series of informational storm recovery sessions provided by Mayor Carmen F. Amato Jr. and other township officials.
