Gov. Christie Seeking Delay on Implementation of Same-Sex Marriages

A judge's ruling ordered state officials to begin officiating same-sex marriages on Oct. 21.

Gov. Chris Christie is seeking a delay in the start date for officials to allow same-sex marriages, nj.com reports.

At the same time, Acting State Attorney General John J. Hoffman is asking the State Supreme Court to hear the appeal to last week’s ruling directly, according to the report. Normally, an appeal goes through an appellate court first.

Last week’s ruling by Superior Court Judge Mary Jacobson sets the effective date for same-sex marriages as Oct. 21.

According to the report, Hoffman will ask Jacobson to put a freeze on that effective date, and if she refuses, he will appeal to an appellate court. If the appellate court refuses, he will go to the State Supreme Court.
