Five Things Happening in Berkeley This Week

Sept. 11 10th anniversary ceremonies, school openings, Berkeley Pride Day, Beach Plum Festival at Island Beach State Park slated

There's plenty to do in Berkeley Township this week. Two major 9-11 memorial services are slated, one on Saturday, the other on Sunday.

Students head back to school in both the Central Regional and Berkeley Township school districts. If you want a taste of the Jersey Shore in the fall, head out to the Beach Plum Festival at Island Beach State Park on Sept. 11.

Tuesday - Central Regional High School and Middle School open for the school year.

Tuesday - Berkeley Township schools - Bayville School, Berkeley Township Elementary School. H&M Potter School and Clara B. Worth School open for the school year.

Saturday - Berkeley Pride Day at Veteran's Park. It's the township's annual version of a founder's day, with rides, games, food, displays and music. The event takes on a more somber note at 6:30 p.m., with a 9-11 memorial service and the unveiling of a piece of Twin Towers steel.

 

Sunday - Island Beach State Park Beach Plum Festival starts at 9 a.m. and runs through 4 p.m. The annual event, sponsored by the Friends of Island Beach, features demonstrations, crafters, food, music, games, non-profit displays and a kayak raffle.

 

Sunday - Holiday City at Berkeley's annual Sept. 11 memorial service. The program starts at 12 p.m. outside Clubhouse II on Port Royal Drive.
