Berkeley Snow Removal Costs Hit $500,000

A series of at least four storms - and maybe more this week - has forced Berkeley officials to dig deep into their snow budget this year.

Mayor Carmen Amato, speaking during the Berkeley Council's Monday meeting, warned he governing body that snow removal costs could exceed a half-million dollars this week.

Already, the township has spent as much as $180,000 on some snow-removal jobs. He didn't elaborate on how the township can continue to afford to cleanup.

"We are getting very tired of the snow," he said.

Berkeley officials said they could be spending another $60,000 after a predicted snowstorm this week

After some residents complained that their streets have not bee quickly complained, Amato told the gathering that getting to every street isn't easy.

"It takes 18 to 24 hours to get to every roadway," he said.

Excessively high, since Berkeley did the worst job of all the towns I drove through. Take some money from gilmores fund to pay for it.

Monitor the money whores that rape the town every storm. I see them doing nothing or 2 and 3 doing the job of one. Comon its not that hard.

I don't know what roads were clear after 18-24 hours, but I do know that even days after the snow they were covered in ice. And the developments I go through were only sanded after 1 storm. So where were they removing snow? Could it be Holiday City? They are always clear, but forget about the rest of Berkeley.

Cyndi, We all know the seniors are bused in at election time. They are catered to by those in office. Varano did it without hiding it. This is just one of their perks. The storm drain covers were replace one year. Like they ever go bad. Really, such B.S.
