Berkeley Officials Going Out To Bid For Courtroom Security Upgrades

Action not related to suicide in bathroom off municipal court lobby, township administrator says

Township Council members recently approved a resolution to accept bids for upgrades to the staff section of the municipal courtroom.

The unanimous vote came at the Jan. 13 Township Council meeting. The courtroom is attached to the Samuel L. Britton Law Enforcement Center on Pinewald-Keswick Road.

It comes less than a week after a Bayville man committed suicide in the men's room in the courtroom lobby. But the upgrades were already being discussed before the incident and are not related, Township Administrator Christopher Reid said after the meeting.

Currently visitors go through the courtroom, through a door on the right and into another room to pay fines and handle court-related items. Employees are separated from the general public by only a pane of glass, Reid said.

"We want to provide more security for the courtroom staff," he said.

Not related?. How about instead of outsourcing you have a few of the 9,000 unneeded officers actually do something
