Bayview Avenue Culvert Part of County Storm Drainage Projects

A storm drain outfall in Ocean Gate, a culvert on Bayview Avenue in Berkeley, and one on Hilliard Boulevard in Manahawkin will be improved at a cost of $574,840, about $45,000 more than Ocean County officials expected to spend on the work, county Engineer Frank Scarantino said recently.

Eagle Paving Inc. of South Toms River is scheduled to receive a contract in that amount when the county’s freeholders meet at 4 p.m. today.

Scarantino said the storm drainage pipe on Narragansett Avenue in Ocean Gate will be extended, and improvements made to both culverts once the work is done.

The freeholders are also expected to authorize advertising for bids for work on five other storm drainage outfall pipes that extend into Barnegat Bay. Three are in Lavallette, one in Seaside Heights, and one in Barnegat.That work is estimated to cost about $490,000, Scarantino said.

The freeholders also will approve a federal aid agreement worth $4 million between the county and the state Department of Transportation to buy the right-of-way for improvements to Garden State Parkway interchange 91 and Burnt Tavern Road in Brick.
