UPDATE: Berkeley Pedestrian Hit By Car, Injured At Notorious Intersection

A 42-year-old Berkeley woman was injured Tuesday when she was walking across the intersection at Route 9 and Frederick Drive, police said.

At approximately 7:13 p.m.,  Sgt. Brian Woermer, Ptl. Patrick Stesner and Ptl John Houghkirk responded to the intersection after learning that a pedestrian was struck, police said.

The woman was ransported to Jersey Shore Medical Center for a head injury. The driver, Carol Sedilo of Berkeley, was not cited at this time, police said.

Heavy traffic, low visibility poor lighting as well as poor weather were all contributing factors to this crash, police said.

The township has also planned to join with the state to help fund and create a crosswalk at the intersection, which is notorious for accidents.

Ocean County Sheriff’s Department CIU, the Ocean Gate Police Department, Bayville Fire Department, Bayville First-Aid and MONOC paramedics also assisted.
