Two Holiday City Men Arrested on Heroin-Related Charges

Special Operations Group responded after complaints of suspicious activity

Two Holiday City men were arrested on a number of drug-related charges after a raid on their Jamaica Boulevard home, Capt. Jack Sramaty of the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.

The Prosecutor's Office's Special Operations Group and detectives from the Berkeley Township Police Department obtained a search warrant after several complaints of suspicious activity at the house at 537 Jamaica Boulevard, he said.

Detectives found a quantity of heroin and packaging materials associated with the distribution of a controlled dangerous substance. The raid took place on Sept. 29, Sramaty said.

Augustyne Arbuzow, 66, who owns the house, was charged with two counts of possession of heroin, possession of heroin under one half-ounce with intent to distribute and distribution of heroin, he said.

Brett McCabe, 45, same address, was charged with possession of heroin and possession of heroin with intent to distribute, Sramaty said.

He described the relationship between the two men as a "roommate type of thing."

Ocean County Superior Court Judge Wendel E. Daniels set Arbuzow's bail at $100,000, with no ten percent option. McCabe was released on a summons.

When asked if he was surprised the arrest took place in a senior citizen community, Sramaty said no.

"Nothing surprises me anymore, to be honest with you," he said.

Members of the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team, the Ocean County Sheriffs Department K-9 Unit, along with members of the Berkeley Township Police Department assisted in the investigation and execution of the search warrant.

The investigation took roughly a month and a half, Sramaty said.
