Power Out Along Route 9 After Car Collides with Utility Pole

Sylvan Lake Blvd. traffic light affected; traffic slowed in both directions of Route 9

A car collided with a utility pole around 3:30 p.m. causing a power outage along Route 9 near Blackbeard's Cave, where traffic is slowed to a crawl both north and southbound.  Emergency crews are tending to the car crash and compromised power lines.

A four-door sedan crashed into a utility pole on the southbound side, nearly splitting the pole in half.

Power outages are visible along Route 9, including traffic lights for Sylvan Lake Boulevard.

Police are directing traffic there and along Route 9. Near the accident, the shoulder of Route 9 southbound is closed as traffic is diverted around the collision. 

Police are urging drivers and pedestrians to avoid the area until the power lines are fixed and the accident is cleared.

As of 4 p.m., crews were still on the scene investigating the accident, which was a one-car collision with the utility pole.
