Police Charge Toms River Man With Drunk Driving After Car Lands In Tree

Accident happened on Plaza Drive in Holiday City

A Toms River man is facing drunk driving charges and driving on a suspended license after a one-car accident on Plaza Drive in Holiday City recently, Detective Sgt. James J. Smith said.

Patrolman John Houghkirk Jr. arrested Jeffrey Figlar, 45, on Sept. 26, shortly after the 7:23 p.m. accident occurred. Houghkirk responded to the scene after a resident called and said a red Ford Ranger had overturned in the roadway, Smith said.

When Haughkirk arrived, he found the overturned vehicle partially suspended in a nearby tree, said Smith.

"The rear was eight feet off the ground," he said. "It was determined he was intoxicated."

Figlar - who apparently had lost control of the vehicle - was not injured in the accident. He was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for blood alcohol tests, Smith said.
