Ocean Gate Man Arrested For Stealing Metal From Abandoned Building

Berkeley police have charged an Ocean Gate man with burglary and theft after an officer spotted him walking out of an abandoned building on Route 9, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

Police responded to 295 Route 9 at 3 p.m. on April 15 on a report of a man stealing metal from the building, the chief said.

The man was identified as Christian Fernandez, 24, Ocean Gate. Fernandez was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he was charged. His bail was set at $2,500, with a ten percent option. Fernandez was unable to make bail and was taken to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, DiMichele said.
