Number of Car Burglaries Skyrocketing Throughout the Township

Thirteen cars hit overnight along Sloop Creek Road, Anchorage Avenue and Buckley Lane

Lock your car doors. Lock your car doors. Lock your car doors.

It's become a mantra of the police department in the wake of "multiple" car burglaries over the past several several months.

"We are seeing a large amount of car burglaries," Detective Sgt. James J. Smith said today.

The most recent was overnight, when 13 cars along Sloop Creek, Anchorage Avenue and Buckley Lane were broken into, Smith said

"We are warning residents to please lock their doors, remove loose change and remove GPS devices," he said.

The car thefts are not isolated to one section of the township, Smith said.

"It's a township-wide problem," he said. "They are going from one neighborhood to another. We are getting hit on a regular basis in random sections of town."

The suspects strike a number of cars one night, then wait a week before hitting another section of town, Smith said.

Police are asking residents who may have information about the thefts to call the police department's newly-instituted tip line at 732-341-1132, ext. 611. Callers may remain anonymous.

"We are urging residents not only to lock their car doors, but to be on the lookout for any suspicious activity they may see in town," Smith said.
