New Berkeley Police Department Website To Debut Friday, Chief Says

Website will include a weekly 'police blotter' section with crime news and arrests, the chief said

Residents will be able to access police blotter information, crime tips and submit traffic complaints on the Berkeley Township Police Department's new website.

"Residents are encouraged to visit www.berkeleypolice.org and see what the site has to offer," DiMichele said yesterday.

The website was designed by the same person who set up the Lacey Township Police Department's website, the chief said.

The design was paid for with trust account proceeds from search, seizure and illegal activities. The project was approved by Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato, DiMichele said Thursday.

The police blotter section of the website will be updated weekly, she said.

"This product, available on the website, will highlight events such as arrests, major incidents and crimes that have occurred," DiMichele said. "The purpose of this blotter is to make our residents more informed and aware of events occurring in the township."

Crime tips and traffic complaints can also be submitted online. Residents can also access firearms applications and information packages, the chief said.

The website also has a number of useful links from local, county state, federal and charitable groups.

Sections of the new website are still under construction and information will be added on a daily basis, DiMichele said.

"We encourage feedback and suggestions that will help make the site a more useful and helpful resource for our residents to use," she said.

Subscribers to the department's Facebook and Nixle sites will still receive updates and alerts. The new website is an addition to the existing notification system, DiMichele said.

"Code Red reverse 9-1-1 is also being implemented and a link to registration is also available," she said.
