Neptune Man Indicted on Charges of Assault on Ocean Gate Cop

Grand juries hand up indictments

 

A Neptune man is free on bail after being accused of assaulting an Ocean Gate police officer.

Henry E. Armstead, 40, was indicted last week by an Ocean County grand jury after being arrested July 3 after a traffic stop gone awry.

Armstead fled from Ocean Gate police Officer Vincent Larocca when he attempted to pull him over, the indictment said, and eventually threatened and assaulted the officer.

The Neptune man was charged with eluding, resisting arrest and aggravated assault, all third-degree crimes.

Armstead was initially held on $35,000 bail, but posted bail on July 11.

Grand juries also indicted: 

  • Brandon Koppenjan, 18, of Forked River on a theft charge.

Koppenjan stole a go-kart from Blackbeard's Cave in Bayville on June 21, the indictment states. He posted $7,500 bail June 26.

  • Devin A. Wingendier, 18, of Ocean Gate on theft and dealing in stolen property charges.

Wingendier is accused of stealing a surfboard valued at more than $500 from an Ocean Gate man, then selling it in Toms River, the indictment states.

He was released on his own recognizance.
