Monmouth County Teenager Injured In Barnegat Bay Jet-Ski Accident

A 16-year-old Long Branch youth was in stable condition after he collided with another personal watercraft in Barnegat Bay yesterday, New Jersey State Police said.
Bernie Pindek - who lives in the Elberon section of Long Branch - was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center after the 1 p.m. collision on Friday, Sgt. Brian Polite said.

The accident happened in the bay near the Jersey Shore Watercraft Rental shop in the Pelican Island section of Berkeley Township, Polite said.

State police officers from the Point Pleasant Marine Station responded to the accident. The operator of the other watercraft, a teenaged male, was uninjured, Polite said.

"He was fine," he said.

Friday's accident was the second personal watercraft accident in Barnegat Bay in less than a week.

Matthew Barther, 24, Long Valley, died on Aug. 11 after his personal watercraft collided with one driven by his brother Patrick at 8 p.m. that evening. Patrick brought his brother back to shore, state police have said.

The Aug. 11 accident occurred just north of the Route 37 bridge that spans Barnegat Bay. The investigation is continuing.
