Man's Body Found Floating in Barnegat Bay Near Amherst Road Inlet

State Marine Police conducting the investigation

Members of the State Police Marine Division recovered the body of a man found floating in Barnegat Bay late Friday afternoon.

Police bought the body to C&C Marina off Sloop Creek Road, where investigators immediately began to gather evidence.

"Anybody found in the water falls under State Police investigation," Berkeley Township Patrolman John Fosbre said before the body was recovered.

MONOC 1 paramedics, Bayville First Aid Squad members and township police first responded to the call at the Allen Road beach. But the decision was later made to bring the body to the nearby marina.

Paramedics examined the body, but left shortly afterward when it was determined they weren't needed. The body appeared to be that of a young man. His chalk-white legs and feet protruded from the top of the small pontoon boat.

The body was apparently sighted by an off-duty state police officer out in his boat, Fosbre said.

The first call for assistance came in shortly after 5 p.m.

Berkeley Patch will have more information on this developing story later.
