So happy my taxes can do so much, but the one thing they can't do is buy an F-ing drug test to test someone around children! Oh yes tenure has its privileges but we can't believe everything we read site has been wrong before ....

@ jersey joe please don't blame the victims. Why couldn't they have that much on them. Maybe it was a total of $200 and $500 over time. But even if it was taken all at once why can't they have that much on them. Maybe they had that much bc they had to pay a bill after work or go food shopping or they were going to deposit it after work whatever the reason it was still there's and still stolen...your probably the same type of person who would say a rape victim is at fault to bc of how they are dressed. It doesn't matter why the teachers had that money on them its their money to do what they wish with

My husband and I both complained to Lippincott about this teacher. Lippincott backed her up 100%. I know other parents that had issues with this teacher but they were afraid to complain.

Big question is why aren't teacher s made to take random drug testing...my husband drives a truck and DOT has him taken test often.......parents /pta should get together andhave this added to their contract s since we parents and tax payers pay them....now for the reason why Karen had 500.00 + at school, she was going Christmas shopping right from school...shouldn't the question be How can your friend/Co worker at school steal from you? Don't teachers of 1st Graders teach children to be kind,trustworthly,caring to others.....she had to steal the kids lunch money, book fair etc....drug addicts blame others and come up with 100 reasons
of"why me"......but I believe what goes around coons around...To Jenny: Only if you knew how much Karen was hurt by you but still she wants you to get Helpl...and if you ever have a open space in your heart repay her ....and any one else you hurt..... Again parent s press for drug testing..

BUT SHE DID!!!!! She screwed up my child. BIG TIME!!! SHE STOLE FROM HER CO-WORKERS!! One of those co-workers currently is out on leave for cancer treatment. Do you think this is the type of person that should be teaching our children. You are an ass for assuming that us "uptight parents with our noses in the air" don't understand addiction. I know this much....people with addictions should not be schoolteachers. This is no running joke to me and my family. I will do whatever I can to make sure my daughter never has to see her again.

ALL people around children all day should be drug tested and head checked. Like any other job if you cant cut it you get cut. Tenure is not such a good thing for everyone, some teachers,, not all, get very very lax after they get it. You know who you are. I have been around school teachers for many years, i have seen both sides. Also ZERO tolerance for addicts.

needs so space I will tell you that as a parent of school age children I absolutely blame the parents for not doing something!! If you felt your children were unsafe you should have removed them from the class.. Obviously if you spoke to someone and got nowhere you then should have pushed harder if you were worried about your child. How would you have any idea what she chose to do or anything about her life?? If you had people in your life or that you love that had an addiction and you just walked away without trying to help that person at all then you are the one with the problem!! I'm not saying what happened here is okay at all however there were some other people to blame here..

All I know is I don't have to wear my goodness on my sleeve. I don't have to label myself "clean and sober" or constantly alert people to how long I've been clean. Keep your business and your diseases to yourself because most people don't give a crap.

Oh, so where are all the Christie bashers who are against him for trying to get the NJEA off of their high horse! Come on, we need a more responsible union to run our school system. Yes, I also do believe that teachers should be drug tested. I have often wondered why they are not tested. This woman should of got the help she needed a long ago. What scares me is that a parent commented on how she was such a horrible teacher and the school defends her! What a joke.

Karen Ratushny is one of the most caring and considerate persons. When faced with more adversity than anyone could handle, she still thinks only of others, especially hr students. She has shown nothing but love and kindness towards every one of her students. This love is recipricated by not only her students, but the parents and her coworkers also. Let's not forget that she is the victim who was violated by someone for whom she cared and trusted. For you to question why she has money or insinuate that she should not have money because she is a teacher is not only inappropriate, it shows your ignorance. The cash of which you question was in her purse locked in her locker and her plans for it was to go christmas shopping after school. Not that it is any of your business though. After reading your comment, in addition to Anna michael's that follows, I am only left with the opinion that you are someone who could learn much from Karen regarding character and morality.

Pinelands high school is full of drug addicted teachers. One just retired on disability, oxy addiction, another busted with drugs in his house. One buying drugs in the school parking lot. It is all well known in the school and they try to get them to retire without anyone finding out. Pinelands is full of alcoholics and pil heads. All the students and faculty know this. So do the local cops.

YES. No more hiding behind it. If you do your job you got nothing to worry about. Only takes a few to ruin it it for the rest. There will still be GOOD teachers out there.

The first year that Veterans Memorial Middle School opened for business, I started the sixth grade there. My classmates and I had an older male teacher who was well known and well liked by many people. He was a drinker, and most folks accepted the fact that drinking never affected his teaching job in a negative way.
Each school day when the students had recess, he would usually stay in the classroom alone with his lunchbox and thermos. A few times when the class returned from recess, it became apparent that the classroom was locked and teacher had fallen asleep in the room at his desk. Another teacher would have to get a custodian to unlock the door. Pounding on the door failed to wake him. Once awakened, everthing seemed fine and he was always in a good mood in the afternoons. Sometimes he would nod off while telling a story. Years later when I became a heavy drinker I was always a happy drunk. (99% of the time, anyway) I credit him for that. Not for being a heavy drinker. But for being happy and sociable about it.

I am very sadden by this story..i knew jenny 20 years ago & can't believe this happened to her...i just pray she gets her life together and gets help...i fell bad for all the parents that had to deal with her..she really was a nice girl..& i hear she's a mom too...please get urself help...
