Fire Company Rescues Occupants of Four Cars Trapped in Flood Waters

No one injured on Port Royal Drive around 8:30 pm., police sergeant says

No one was injured tonight when four cars became trapped in sudden flood waters from heavy rains in the Holiday City section of the township, Sgt. Philip Smith said.

The cars' occupants didn't realize how deep the water was in the roadway, he said.

"It was coming down pretty hard," Smith said. "The water came up so high. It was probably a couple of feet."

Members of the Manitou Park Volunteer Fire Company responded with a brush truck and were able to help the occupants out and move their cars, he said.

They also cleared a clogged storm drain on the roadway, which may have contributed to the flooding problems, Smith said.

The storm felled tree limbs and flooded streets in other sections of the township, he said.
