Police Charge Two Men In Separate Drunk Driving Incidents At Storm Checkpoints

Both incidents occurred at Butler Boulevard and Bayview Avenue after the hurricane

Police arrested two area men in separate incidents after the storm when they blew through checkpoints at Butler Boulevard and Bay Avenue, Detective Sgt. James J. Smith said.

In one incident, Sgt. Peter LaRocca arrested Noah Trengrove, 22, Route 9, Bayville, at 10:36 p.m. on Nov. 10.

Trengrove sped through a checkpoint set up in a storm-damaged section of Butler Boulevard and Bayview Avenue at a high rate of speed, Smith said.

"He nearly struck Officer Christoper Shick," Smith said. "He did not get hit. He's fine."

Trengrove was charged with reckless driving and driving while under the influence, he said.

In the second incident, police arrested Joseph Schneider, 47, Whiting, at 12:18 a.m. on Nov. 7, after he refused to stop at the same checkpoint on Butler Boulevard and Bayview Avenue, Smith said.

Patrolman Christopher Shick and Patrolman David Moody were at the checkpoint at the time of the incident.

The officers were able to stop Schneider on Butler Boulevard, where they determined he was intoxicated.

Schneider was charged with driving while under the influence and reckless driving, Smith said.
