'Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over' In Berkeley Results In Multiple Arrests

Two charged with drunk driving, two arrested on drug charges, one arrested for outstanding warrants, police say

 

Berkeley Township police arrested five people on various charges over the weekend, a result of the department's 'Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over' campaign, Sgt. Ryan Roth said.

Township police officers wrote a total of 17 tickets in 33 traffic stops. The stops resulted in two drunk driving arrests, two drug arrests and one outstanding warrant arrest, Roth said.

Arrested for drunk driving were:

Patrolman John Fosbre arrested Sandra Tarver, 51, South Toms River, on Aug. 25 on First Avenue in the Manitou Park section of the township. Tarver had a blood alcohol concentration of .22 percent. The legal limit in New Jersey is .08 percent.

Patrolman Jason Malley arrested Michael A. DiMaria, 40, South Toms River, on Aug. 26 on Route 9 near Gladney Avenue. DiMaria's blood alcohol level was .16 percent.

Patrolman Rodney Flanegan arrested Punjani Naushad, 41, on Aug. 24 near the Wawa on Route 9 in Bayville. Nausha had $3,300 in outstanding warrants.

Patrolman Patrick Stesner also made two drug arrests over the weekend, but no details are being released at this time, Roth said.

Additional officers will be on patrol this weekend to set up sobriety checkpoints and random patrols to snag motorists who are driving drunk.

Berkeley received a grant from the the state Division of Highway Traffic Safety
to run the two-week nationwide campaign, Berkeley Lt. James Blair has said.

The campaign began on Aug. 17 and will run through Labor Day.
