Coast Guard Rescues Three off Long Beach Island

34-foot "Naughty Girl" ran around in Little Egg Harbor Bay

A Coast Guard crew rescued three boaters early Monday morning after their boat ran aground in Little Egg Harbor Bay behind Beach Haven.

The Coast Guard received a call at 5:33 a.m. Monday when the owner of the 34-foot Naughty Girl called watchstanders via marine radio. He reported the boat ran aground and was taking on water, according to a statement from Coast Guard Public Affairs Detachment Atlantic City.

A 25-foot response boat from Coast Guard Station Beach Haven arrived on scene and took the three people off the boat and transported them to Great Bay Marina in Tuckerton.

The area of Little Egg Harbor Bay – the southernmost reach of the Barnegat Bay estuary – is notoriously shallow and has many shoals outside of the main navigation channels. The Coast Guard's station in Beach Haven is open seasonally.
