Holiday Care Center Employee Charged In April Bomb Scare

Police today arrested a former employee  at the Holiday Care Center in Holiday City in connection with an April 17 bomb scare incident that led to the evacuation of patients and workers

Victoria Manganiopis, 19, Hyers Street, Toms River, was charged with issuing a false public alarm and making terroristic threats, Detective Sgt. James J. Smith said.

She was on her way to the Ocean County Jail in Toms River this afternoon, in lieu of $15,000 bail, he said.

Manganiopis left a note in a restroom indicating a bomb was in the building around mid-afternoon on April 17. No bomb was found after an extensive sweep of the facility at 4 Plaza Drive, police said.

Berkeley Township police, fire departments, first aid squads, neighboring police departments, and a number of bomb-sniffing dogs were involved in the search and evacuation, Police Chief Karin T. DiMichele said.

"It took up a lot of resources," the chief said.

The charges against Manganiopis will eventually be presented to an Ocean County grand jury, Smith said.
